Okay I didn’t check through my tumblr backup closely enough to notice before, but mine is missing tons of images. Definitely check your media folder against your earliest posts on tumblr to see if you got everything. But I recommend to go with tumblthree for your backup, at least to make sure you get back all your pictures.

My buddy Sam Wineman, director of the queer-horror short film THE QUIET ROOM, has recorded a Christmas album! If you’re looking for some heartfelt and funny Christmas pop music, look no further. You can check it out on Apple Music and Spotify

If you dig streaming the music and want to own it/or would just like to help out with a great cause, Sam is also doing AIDS Lifecycle for the second year running. Donating would be a more helpful way of buying his album, rather than giving a big chunk of the money to Apple. Sam has included an exclusive bonus track that you get with the album when you donate. Also, boosting this post will help my friend!

The description of the album from Sam’s ALS page:

“Get ready to make the yultide gayer with an all-new remastered edition of Right In Front Of My Christmas. The 9 original holiday jams you love, plus 2 new bonus tracks “No Chill” and “Guitar”.While the 11-track remastered edition is available on Spotify and Apple Music, your donation of $25 or more to AIDS/LifeCycle will get you a free download of a very limited 12-track edition of Right In Front Of My Christmas. This
exclusive edition includes “Christmas Is Us” – not yet available
anywhere else. Download links will begin to go out Tuesday, 12/11.Whether
you’re setting the scene for that holiday hookup or spilling the tea on
a nasty winter breakup, this is the Christmas kiki you’ve been waiting
for.”

Sorry to bother, but I haven’t downloaded my archive and am wondering what exactly you get once you unzip that monster file. What is in there and how do you view it?

It’s a zip file. You unzip it and you get a folder labeled “html”. This (I think) has an html file for each post that you’ve ever made. I was confused because I thought they were just links, but they’re actually self-contained html documents with the post info/picture/video/etc included. Then you get a “media” folder. This looks like it has every picture, video, and (probably) sound file you’ve posted (I wouldn’t know because I deleted all my audio files when tumblr cracked down on them). And there’s an .xml file for messages. Then theres a zipped file of posts which, when you unzip it, has an xml file of your posts. Theoretically you can upload that xml to blogging platforms but Blogger seems like the only viable one (because if I’m not mistaken, wordpress costs a monthly fee I’d rather not pay). And Blogger seems to have some kind of problem with the way the code in the XML file is written. Bluh

tell me if you figure it out

At first I had a problem with the tumblr export. It only spit out a
small file. So then I downloaded tumblthree and it downloaded all my gifs and everything super fast. Then I tried the official tumblr export again and it spit out a 16 gb file that looks like it has all the posts in it and everything. So I guess I have everything I need if tumblr deletes my blog, but I’d still like to upload the thing somewhere else that doesn’t cost a monthly fee

Anybody know where you can implement/upload the tumblr backup files for a blog? I found a lot of stuff about backing up but almost nothing useful about using those files anywhere. I’ve tried to upload the xml file to Blogger and it doesn’t work. I read something about the format of the coding possibly not matching with what Blogger requires.
