When you get hungry

Opal apples are SO good, I’m not surprised they sold out fast. They are crisp (grainy apples suck) and sweet and tart at the same time. They also don’t turn brown after you slice them so I bet they’re popular for people who meal prep and stuff
One of my favorites. Opals have been out of stock/season for a minute too. They have a consistency almost like pears, so even when they start to get a little soft, they still taste good and don’t get very mealy. I usually refrigerate them, but I got a lot of apples and they didn’t all fit in my crisper, so I ate the biggest opal I got and it had a really sweet and sorta tart floral flavor. The first bite had an almost fermented flavor
gala! that’s the one i tried and also liked. i have a bunch of fuji apples to finish up, maybe time to make a pie, before i can try any new ones. i couldn’t believe honeycrisp apples were $5/lb, and at aldi no less. i can only imagine how much they would be at a regular grocery store.
Holy hell, I only go to Sprouts but I’ve never seen any apples at that price there! I just looked at my receipt and the ones I got were $1.98/lb.
i finally tried a few apples other than red and golden delicious. fuji and honeycrisp. fuji is too sweet for me but i really liked honeycrisp. not wild about the price though. i think i tried another kind but i can’t remember what it was
@holykittens Nice! Most of the apples I like tend to be around $2/lb, but they often put them on sale when they first get them in. Gala and braeburn apples are good tasting apples that tend to be more price friendly. I consider gala to be the sort of “all-around” basic good apple. I feel like it sort of has that reputation now, and I’m glad that it and fujis have replaced the red delicious in that regard.
